Why drag Vice President and DepEd Sec. Sara Duterte into a mess that the bright boy in Malacanang had created in the West Philippine Sea? The chief architect of foreign policy is the Chief Executive and it will be presumptive for the Vice President to speak and act on issues which alone the President, for that matter Ferdinand Marcos Jr. , has the exclusive authority.

It is funny that now that the tension at WPS has escalated the same juvenile adults in congress would blame and raise issues against VP Sara for keeping mum over the tension.

We are certain that had the Vice President made any commentary for or against Marcos actions on territorial disputes that involve foreign policy the same caboodle of legislators will be quick to demonize her.

In retrospect, former President Rodrigo Duterte promptly deescalated the heightened tension created by the late President Noynoy Aquino and his amboys between the Philippines and China when he, as the engineer of foreign policy, opted to engage China in a bilateral dialogue. The tension was immediately defused and not only the resupply missions proceeded with no hindrance Filipino fishermen resumed fishing in the contested area in WPS.

We are in accord with VP Sara’s reservation not to straddle on matters which President Marcos alone can decide. When once she articulated her stand against resumption of peace talks with a defeated CPP/NPA/NDF and extending amnesty to the terrorist combatants, her voice just fell on deaf ears.

Falling into the trap of scheming congressmen is like pulling her into the deep blue sea of the West Philippine Sea. (Jun Ledesma)
