The City Disaster Risk Reduction Management Office and the City Health Office are all set to provide emergency medical services for the Davao Regional Athletics Association (DAVRAA) Meet participants and delegates.

A total of 400 personnel from the CDRRMO, CHO, and Barangay Disaster Risk Reduction Management Council will be deployed to provide medical care during the sports meet that will run from April 1-7.

A total of 264 medical personnel and emergency responders will be deployed to the play venues. For each of the 33 sports events of the tournament, a corresponding 8-member team composed of CHO medical professionals, CDRRMO personnel, and BDRRMC responders will be put on standby to respond to any emergency that may occur during a game.

Meanwhile, a total of 136 BDRRMC responders will be deployed to the 17 billeting schools across the city where student athletes and other DAVRAA delegates will be staying. A team of eight will also be deployed to every billeting school.

The CDRRMO has also identified the nearest hospitals for each playing venue and billeting school in the event of extreme medical emergencies.

City Sports Development Division Chief Mikey Aportadera, during the I-Speak Media Forum on Thursday, said emergency and medical support for the games are sufficient. He added the CSDD will be have daily monitoring the heat index during the meet to discern the possibility of having to cancel any sports event in case of extreme heat.

“We remind all athletes and spectators as well to hydrate properly … But we are closely monitoring [the heat index] with the CDRRMO. They told me that they will be updating me kung unsay forecast and probably heat indexes for next week and weather conditions,” said Aportadera.

Department of Education Davao City Schools Division Superintendent Reynante Solitario bared the billeting schools and play venues have been fogged to curb mosquito infestation. The CHO has also inspected water supply in all billeting schools to ensure delegates will have access to safe tap water. (CIO)
