DAVAO CITY – First Congressional District Representative Paolo Z. Duterte’s office distributed on August 23, Tuesday afternoon, immediate relief assistance to more than 100 families affected by a fire incident in Barangay 76–A Bucana here.

The First Congressional District Office dispatched its staff to the evacuation area to supply relief assistance such as hot meals (lugaw), grocery packs (rice, canned goods, bottled water, milk, and other everyday essentials), and some sanitation kits.

Each recipient – house owners, sharers, renters, and boarders – received the assistance through Rodrigo “Rigo” Duterte II, son of the young congressman. Rigo facilitated the distribution of the goods on behalf of his father, who was at the Congress.

On Tuesday’s Madayaw Davao program broadcast on the Davao City Disaster Radio, City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (CDRRMO) head Alfredo Baloran said the fire destroyed 40 houses based on the initial investigation of the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) in Davao City.

According to Baloran, the firefighters had difficulty extinguishing the fire earlier because of the area’s constrained passages. He added that there had been no reports of fatalities or significant injuries during the incident.

Rep. Duterte said affected individuals with health concerns could also seek medical support from his office. The First Congressional District Office has been providing relief assistance to anyone in need of timely aid.

Based on the initial report from the Davao City Social Welfare and Development Office (CSWDO), 20 affected families and 64 dependents are currently sheltered at Busna Gymnasium, while 149 families with 545 dependents are at Manggahan Gymnasium. ###
