The Davao City’s athletic team, Davao Durians, bagged 158 gold medals and was hailed as the overall champion of the recently concluded 2024 Davao Regional Athletic Associations (DAVRAA) Meet on April 7.
The Davao Durians is composed of elementary and secondary student-athletes from the Davao City Division. During the sporting event, the team also won 115 silver medals and 112 bronze medals.
Meanwhile, the Tagum Premier from the Tagum City Division emerged as 1st Runner Up with a total of 62 gold medals; while the DavNor Pioneers from the Davao del Norte Division became 2nd Runner Up with a total of 61 gold medals.
During the closing ceremony of the 2024 DAVRAA Meet, the Davao City Mayor Sebastian “Baste” Duterte reminded the winning athletes to stay humble, and have also advised the losing teams to continue working hard and to keep believing in themselves.
He also reminded the youth of the importance of discipline as well as to avoid indulging in vices that may be detrimental to them.
The city mayor also expressed his gratitude to the security team who ensured the safety and security of the delegates during the event; as well as to the different participating local government units for their trust in the city in hosting the DAVRAA Meet.
The winning athletes will undergo intensive training in preparation for the Palarong Pambansa 2024. (CIO)
