In line with the city’s commitment to peace and order, the 20th City Council approved a resolution re-expressing the Dabawenyos’ renouncement of war as an instrument of national policy, amid the ongoing territorial dispute between China and the Philippines in the West Philippines Sea.

According to the resolution, the 20th City Council is “re-expressing that the people of the City of Davao renounces war as an instrument of national policy” and requests the policymakers of the country to “adhere to the policy of peace, equality, justice, freedom, cooperation, and amity with all nations in accordance with the nation’s principles and state policies.”

With this, Dabawenyos called on the national government to continue exhausting available formal and informal mechanisms that did not involve armed confrontation in enforcing the rights of the country.

The resolution was proposed by Sangguniang Kabataan President, Kristine Mercado, together with the Chairperson of the Committee on Future Generations, Hon. Jonard Dayap, and was approved under suspended rules during the 15th regular session of the 20th City Council on Tuesday. (CIO)
