Sen. Christopher “Bong” Go extended his congratulations during the ribbon-cutting ceremony marking the inauguration and blessing of a new multipurpose building at Girl Scouts of the Philippines (GSP) in Camp Alano in Toril, Davao City on Friday, March 22. The infrastructure was funded through the support of Go as Vice Chair of the Senate Committee on Finance.

This event, attended by Go’s Malasakit Team and GSP representatives, underscores the ongoing commitment to enhancing the development and empowerment of young women in the region.

The newly inaugurated facility is poised to become a GSP activity hub. It promises to be a versatile space, hosting various events, from workshops and training sessions to community gatherings and recreational activities.

Senator Go, through a representative, highlighted the Girl Scouts’ pivotal role in shaping tomorrow’s leaders. He acknowledged the organization’s efforts in instilling values of civic duty, responsibility, and community service among young women.

The senator also reiterated his support for initiatives that promote youth development and empower women especially in observancd of Women’s Month this March.

“Nais ni Senator Go na pasalamatan ang lahat ng mga indibidwal at organisasyon na nagtulungan upang maging posible ang pagkakaroon ng gusaling ito,” expressed Go’s representative.

“Alam natin na ang Girl Scouts of the Philippines ay may mahalagang papel sa paghubog ng karakter at kakayahan ng ating mga kabataang babae, sa pamamagitan ng mga gawaing nagtataguyod ng leadership, teamwork, at civic responsibility,” the message continued.

Moreover, Go cited that establishing this multipurpose building in Camp Alano marks a significant milestone in the ongoing efforts to bolster the GSP’s capabilities.

Furthermore, Go supported various projects in the city such as the construction of various multipurpose buildings and local roads, the rehabilitation of water systems, drainage systems, and flood control structures in different barangays throughout the city, the construction of a 300-bed capacity infectious diseases building for Southern Philippines Medical Center (SPMC), and the acquisition of ambulances.

As Chairman of the Senate Committee on Health and Demography, Go supported the establishment of 11 Super Health Centers in the city. This initiative is part of a more significant effort of Go, in collaboration with the DOH, led by Secretary Teodoro Herbosa, local government units and fellow legislators, to ensure there are necessary funds to build more than 700 Super Health Centers across the country to bring primary care, medical consultations and early disease detection to communities.

The senator then encouraged the attendees and their loved ones with health concerns to visit the Malasakit Center in SPMC if they need medical assistance from the government to cover their hospital expenses.

The Malasakit Centers Act of 2019, principally authored and sponsored by Go, aims to provide poor and indigent patients with convenient access to medical assistance programs offered by concerned agencies. To date, there are now 161 Malasakit Centers that have assisted more than ten million Filipinos nationwide.

Moreover, Go is the principal sponsor and one of the authors of RA 11959, or the Regional Specialty Centers Act. The law mandates the establishment of Regional Specialty Centers within existing DOH regional hospitals.

There are specialty centers inside SPMC that provide cardiovascular care, lung care, neonatal care, trauma care, toxicology, cancer care, eye care, and dermatology care. It will also soon provide a renal care and transplant center, brain and spine care, orthopedic center, physical rehabilitation medicine, mental health, burn care, infectious disease and tropical medicine, and geriatric care.
