We are in the midst of challenging times. We are dragged into a crisis situation where two years back was unthinkable. We had nurtured peace then but these days we are fanning the embers of conflicts. While before we settle disputes with bilateral talks today we waste billions of our scarce money to buy weapons of mass destructions and yet not enough to sustain a war our leaders thought would end in a day.

Our leaders are unmindful of the sweltering climate, one literal that scorched our land the other metaphorical that made our country the battleground if the present belligerence is not contained.

On the other hand our legislators are oblivious of what our country is leading to. While they all speak with forked tongues against each other, they shamelessly embrace each other in their sinister plot to stay in power for yet another decade and who knows even more.

Meanwhile nobody minds what is happening with our farmers, fisherfolk and consumers. Prices of prime commodities have spiraled in an unprecedented momentum. Yet our leaders are simply bereft of solutions and could only think of importations to tie us up.

We are in a crisis mode and in the path to self-destruct. We do not need that war for already we are losing a battle within our confines all because our leaders do not have an agenda for our survival. (Jun Ledesma)
