Alvarez fellow lawmakers at the House of Representatives are demanding sedition raps against him. Camiguin Rep. Jurdin Romualdo said sedition raps should be “filed quickly against the ex-Speaker and should be addressed immediately so that the move to incite people, including the military to rebel against the government will be nipped in the bud”, Romualdo said.

Earlier Surigao del Sur 2nd District Rep. Johnny Pimentel and Lanao del Norte 1st District Rep. Khalid Dimaporo warned Alvarez about his statements. The chorused that the statement of the former Speakeris unbecoming of a House of Representatives member.

The three congressmen are vocal about their stand to censure Alvarez.

The Philippine National Police in the meanwhile is studying whether the Davao del Norte District Rep. Pantaleon “Bebot” Alvarez is liable for inciting to sedition for his call to the military withdraw its support for Marcos. PNP Spokesperson Col. Jean Fajardo bared that the legal panel of the PNP is evaluating the statement of Alvarez whether it is seditious.

As this develops, the National Security Council called on the Department of Justice to consider filing legal action against Congressman Alvarez following his statement for the military and police to withdraw their support for President Marcos. National Security Adviser Eduardo Ano said that Alvarez call could be interpreted as “seditious or rebellious”.

Last Tuesday the former speaker and Davao del Norte 1st District Representative Pantaleon Alvarez apologized for his call for the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) to withdraw support from President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. He moreover denied that it was inciting sedition.
