The Davao City Agriculturist’s Office (CAgrO) distributed two sacks of Yara Complete Fertilizer to a total of 200 durian farmers on April 11.

The beneficiaries of the free fertilizer are from the durian-producing districts of Baguio, Tugbok, Calinan, and Toril, who are farm-coded by the Bureau of Plant Industry – Plant Quarantine Services (BPI-PQS) and have attended the Good Agricultural Practices (GAP) training.

According to the CAgrO, the distribution of free fertilizer to durian farmers is part of the activities to support the durian farmers of the city by covering a portion of the production cost. This is following the high demand for Durian in China after the said country signed a bilateral agreement with the Philippine government to be one of its direct suppliers of fresh durian.

Members of the Durian Industry of Davao City (DIADC), led by Mr. Emmanuel Belviz, DIADC President, received the fertilizer in a simple ceremonial turnover program conducted at the City Farm Nursery Compound in Malagos.

Meanwhile, Belviz extended his gratitude to Davao City Mayor Sebastian “Baste” Duterte and to the CAgrO in a social media post for the free fertilizer that will help improve the quality and production of Durian farms in the city.

Currently, there are 469 farmers covering 485 farms in the city that are already coded by the BPI-PQS and are submitted to the General Administration of Customs of the People’s Republic of China (GACC). (CIO)
